ONE plus point of using a mortgage adviser like myself is that we often get the chance to discuss cases directly with the underwriters.

And sometimes this means we can put them straight!!

Just like the time a plumber client of mine was looking to buy his first home but the underwriter was ready to flush his hopes down the gurgler.

He threw a spanner in the works by arguing that the income on my client’s latest bank statements did not match the figures in his annual accounts.

This was true. But the underwriter had forgotten something … he was reviewing the case in June!

Who calls for a plumber in the summer?? Not many of us.

But come October, November & December when we turn our heating back on, boilers start groaning and pipes start bursting, that’s when the plumbers really earn their money.

And once I provided some income figures from the previous winter, the underwriter saw the error of his ways and duly agreed to accept my client’s application.
